: There are several different species of hingebacks, if you know what kind you have it would help with its care. Most hingebacks like fairly moist environments. Mine doesn't like really warm temps, he seems to be more active when the temp is in the low 70's. He really enjoys being outside in a nice warm summer rain and mine having his own strange personality likes to sit out in the rain, even if the temps are in the 50 and 60's. A large majority of hingebacks when first purchased have parasites and die if not treated by a vet. You need to keep a close eye on her and make sure she is eating well. They will eat most of the same foods as box turtles. Lots of leafy greens like romaine lettuce, a small amount of fruit a couple of times a week and a couple of nice big earthworms about once a week. If she won't eat at first try tempting her with fruit, they are from Africa and mango seems to be a favorite fruit. They get to be about 8 inches big. Males usually have a concave plastron and a long thick tail. I have some care sheets I can e-mail you if you would like them, just let me know.

: Linda
