We have 2 Leopard tortoises. We don't know how old
they are but the previous owner had them for about
2 years and said they were about 4-5" when she got
them at the pet store. Cleo is 10 lbs (small turkey
size) and Horus is 3 lbs (fryer chicken size). Cleo
eats anything! Horus is alittle bit choosier, but will
eat almost anything. She obviously got to the food
dish first, and still does. They took about a week
or so to get used to us---now they beg and come when
we call them!

We make a "salad mix" of :Romaine, kale, collards, endive(sometimes)
,dandelion greens. Any or all of the above. We cut it up and wash it and
dry it. Then we add any of the following to the top on their
plates: shredded carrots, slightly cooked squash, raddichio,
cactus (prickly pear pads with thorns removed),
cactus fruit(prickly pear-red or green). Top with a
sprinkle of calcium/vitamin powder.
It is not good to give much fruit--the sugar isn't
good for them. Cactus fruit is an exception- it is
high in fiber and might actually be something they
could eat out in the wild. We also have some timothy
hay in their indoor enclosure. They nibble on it and
hide in it. At an ethnic market I get grape leaves
once a year. They love them! They are rated very
high on Andy Highfield's Tortoise Trust site.
I'm glad to hear your new addition is settling in.
