Hi,
I like Rep Cal because it is phosphorous free, (see article linked below, scroll to the bottom for calcium/phosphorous info)and contains vit d3.
I use it sparingly, sprinkled on the food once a week, my torts are housed outdoors.
Many tort keeper use cuttlebone, it can be left in the enclosure for the tortoises to nibble on at will.Some keepers make sure that cuttlebone is always available.
I also provide cuttlebone for all my turtles/ tortoises, I remove the hard backing and only offer the soft part.
I beak it up for the smaller turtles/tortoises .

have you thought about joining the tortoise discussion lists ie: the Tortoise Trust list, at the lists these issues are discussed in great detail with varying opinions by list members.
