Hi, get a variety that people eat or as near spineless as you can.
I scrape off the spines with a kitchen knife, other people use a vegetable scrubbing pad, paper towels, etc. I know tortoises eat them with spines in the wild, but I would rather not risk it.
You can buy pads by the pound from the grocery store, produce store, or Annie Lancaster's website. You can feed some and plant some...
