The grocery store is a good start, also just keep your eyes open & collect it (depending on where you live). It's easy to grow & grows fast, just set a pad on or partially in soil.
As far as the spines, I've never had a problem, they eat them in the wild. However I don't know,
has anyone out there had a problem with their tortoise eating the spines?
