If you see a vet asap (to rule out illness), I wouldn't worry too much if your guy chooses to stay hidden most of the time. He's probably stressed, plus, he's really unsure about what's going on. Remember that they've all got different personalities. My first russian acclimated right away, but my second took a couple of days before he was trusting enough to let us see him when he came out to feed or bask. You might try putting his food right near his hiding box doorway so he feels safer, and if he continues to stay on the warmer side I'd soak him every other day until he starts to venture out on his own.
