Although a high protein diet may not be the sole cause of pyramiding. I tend to believe that environment also is a factor, going on the greatly improved growth of two of my sulcatas, once housed indoors.
It is however the cause of digestive problems and liver and kidney failure, I believe.
The very first sulcata I had, was housed outdoors his entire life.
His shell ( carapace) was perfect, no pyramiding.
But we believe that he had been on a protein rich diet, including being fed very large amounts of banana.
Blood tests revealed that his kidney and liver were absolutely shot. The vet gave him just a few months to live.We took him back to the seller.
So foods high in protein do cause problems.
Richard I'm not trying to disagree with you, in fact I do believe that environment is a factor when it comes to pyramiding.
However protein rich foods shouldn't make up a sulcatas diet, due to the other health problems they cause.Just pointing this out so that those new to the forum don't go out and buy bunches of bananas for their torts!!!!
Terry.
