: Giovanni,
: I don't have any hinge backs,( I would love too, but don't have room for more enclosures) but I do keep two species of box turtle, C.galbinifrons and 3 toeds.
: They love their leaf piles, I just add leaves when I rake, the three toeds spend most of the time in these huge piles of leaves, so maybe hingebacks will enjoy it too.

Terry,
It makes total sense and it never dawned on me before and i'll tell you why. I used to keep a garbage pail and a leaf bag inside the gate to
keep the big Sulcata from getting in there. When
I leave in the morning I pull the top off the Hingeback's doggie loo to force them to get out when the sun shines on them and seek refuge elsewhere, plus the path they will have to travel
on has food along the way. One time the kids couldn't find the male, and where in a panic. I went in there and looked around and noticed leaves
and pine needles coming out the bottom of the leaf
bag which had a hole in it. I reached in the hole,
and there was the male:)
Ciao'
Giovanni
