First of all, what is the best source of calcium? I've heard rep-cal was the best, but it's made from oyster shells, which a few web sites say is bad because it has too much iron.
So, I've been using cuttlefish bone and grinding it up into a powder to put on the food. Is this better than using rep-cal?
My other question is about tortoise dry food diets. If used as a suplement, once a week or so, which dry food would be the best for the russian tortoise? I'm thinking of getting the T-Rex brand dry food.
Thanks
: Going through numerous websites about Russian tortoise diets, the information is so contradictary from website to website. With all recomendation for food on one website, 2 others say that particular food is bad for the tortoise.
: What should the main diet be? Many people are saying romaine lettuce, with added vitamines and calcium supplements, while others say there is no nutritional value in it. Some mention apples and tomatoes, while others mention that they're bad for the tortoise. Also, some say grasses and alfalfa is good, while others don't....
: So far, I believe the only food items that all of them agree on, as far as food items go, is Dandelions and squash. I see why people sometimes have problems with tortoises, because of all of the false information out there. No one knows what to believe.
: Any help will be appreciated.
