Well 1st I would get
it checked for worms and flatulates at the vet.

.......FLATULATES !!!!!!........surely you mean flagellates, unless your tortoise is a real farty pants !!!!

: : I recently purchased a forest hingeback..
: (captive bred) What is the best diet or food
: for them and what temp ought they be kept at

: Hey good for you a cb Homeana. Well 1st I would get
: it checked for worms ans flatulates at the vet. My
: 2 adults were loaded when I got them, and considering
: chances are the parents were WC, they are know to
: pass them on. I would say they do best in about 70
: to 80 degrees, don't be too concerned about basking
: it cause chances are you'll never see it until your
: going to find it. They like dark damp places, and
: once they find one , they generally stay there. I
: feed mine carrots , banana's, lettuce, cat food,
: turkey, romaine, endive and turnip greens. You should
: also suppliment with calcium D3, and maybe Reptovit
: for stress. The diet should be omnivorous.

: ....
: should they be soaked? Can they live in a group
: exibit, (like an aviary set up with small birds
: and herps of the same reigon of africa?)

: You say it's captive bred but you don't say if it's
: a hatchling or not. If it's a baby I would soak it
: at least 2x a week to keep an eye on it. Always make
: sure there is plenty of water around in it's habitat.
: They only thing I can say about mixing reptiles is
: it's really not a good thing to do for lots of reasons
: I won't even go into, mainly the spread of disease
: between species.

: I know there a secretive tortoise and require high
: humidity....(The aviary has a mister and a
: waterfall)I have many other herps but this is my
: first tortoise....(I have had Turtles before)
: and would be curious as other peoples experiances
: with them....

: Out of all my herps, I think the hingebacks wouldn't
: care if I dropped dead tommorrow..lol. They had
: a real hard life before I got them, but now they
: thrive and I'm giving them a place to be together
: and be outside and free to roam.

: Ciao'

: Giovanni
: :

: Thanx
