:come on you guys... the poor mom just asked a question about whether or not it was a good idea to get one. i've noticed that a lot of people on this forum tend to think they are the only ones qualified to take care of a tortoise. whenever a newbie comes in and asks a question they get blasted! did you ever think that with a few questions and some research, they might be able to take care of their pet as well as you do yours? Everyone was new at sometime or another. sharif and timi, stop accusing each other of being stupid. sharif, you take very good care of your kleinmanni and have excellent info, but please don't assume you know more than anybody. we all have A LOT to learn. timi, i've not heard of you before, but i do have to question your info.... 90% of tortoises do NOT have salmonella. it IS a good idea to wash after handling ANY pet though. I've had tortoises for years, but i have learned a lot from most people on the forum. everyone is USUALLY very helpful, but if I were sarah, i would be completely offended by the way everyone jumped on her for asking if a tortoise made a good pet. i have three kids of my own that are very good, as niki's son is, around my reptiles. i however, am completely responsible for their care. and TIMI.... three of my four types of tortoises APPROACH me to have their heads scratched. they enjoy the handling very much. please lets stick to answering questions and being helpful, not attacking people. SORRY FOR THE LONG POST.
