: A friend has a two year old California desert tortoise that has "mites". I haven't actually seen it, but apparently, they had a snake in the house 6 months before (not in the same cage) and it had the same problem, and it wsas diagnosed as mites by a vet. Any suggestions for treatment?
most mites are species specific. Without being in the same cage, the chances are low their tortoises have mites. They should go to the vet for a skin scrape. Snakes are usually treated with ivermectin injections for mites, but this can be fatal for tortoises. TALK TO YOUR VET!!
