Sarah,
incase you missed it here again is a link to the Tortoise Trust web site, ( below).
It is a great place to start your research on the care of various species of turtles/tortoises.
If you go to the Links section of the web site, you will find a link to the Box Turtle Care and Conservation web site.Highly recommended if you are thinking about a box turtle.
All tortoises/turtles need space, the correct environment and diet recommended for each particular species.
If a tortoise/turtle is kept in incorrect conditions and the husbandry is wrong, it will mean the slow death of the animal.
You came to this forum for help and advise, both the Tortoise Trust and Box Turtle web sites will
help you begin your research.
For further help I suggest you subscribe to an email discussion list, you will find a link at the Tortoise Trust site to their list, it is focused on both tortoises and turtles.
At the box turtle site you will find a link to their list, which is focused on Box Turtles.
I am subscribed to both lists, and find them a great help.
Experts, long term keepers and veterinarians are subscribed from all over the world. So you will receive expert advise, should you choose to subscribe.
Hope this helps you decide if a turtle/tortoise is the right pet for your family.
Terry.
