Congratulations on your "close encounter of the box turtle kind". You probably don't need to worry much about cooties from the visitor. If Teddy spends a lot of time in the yard, he's most likely been exposed to anything a local box turtle might be carrrying. Being vigilant never hurts either. One thing you might not have considered is; Spring is here and love is in the air. I'm not saying the visitor is looking for a date from Teddy but, if the visitor and Teddy are both males you might want to keep an eye on little Teddy. You called the visitor "him" in your post, do you know for sure? Male box turtles get very aggresssive towards other males (species or size be darned). Box turtle machismo involves snapping at (I've not seen actual biting),ramming and overturning the opponent. Teddy doesn't need any of that, especially the last part.
