Corncob isn't really good for tortoises..try Care Fresh brand bedding, most pet shops carry it or have your local shop order you a bag if they don't regularly carry it. I know Petco near me has it. It's this clumpy gray fiber stuff..really good stuff! And the hiss you hear when head retracts into the carapace is normal..as long as you don't hear it any other time..
