Hi Kymm,
sounds like sulcata paradise! Plant a few hibiscus too, red flowers are the favorite.
One word of caution a large sulcata will eat the opuntia and hibiscus in a matter of hours, so better to fence it off and feed the pads
(spines removed), hibiscus leaves and flowers a couple of times a week.
I have 10 large hibiscus bushes, planted out of the tortoise area, it's my daughters job to pick the flowers daily ( before school) and throw them in the back yard, where the sulcatas gobble them up in minutes! Also make sure there is no way the tortoise can escape, through or under the fence.
I too have a large yard and spineless opuntia ( prickly pear) etc so I opted for a large sulcata ( I now have two adults, two juveniles) over a hatchling.
You could possibly even adopt a bigger sulcata through Turtle Homes a tortoise/turtle adoption organization. They often have large sulcatas that need rehoming.
I don't have a link to their web site though. Marissa can give you more info on that.
Keep us posted on which species you decide on, and look forward to seeing your emails on the Tortoise Trust list.
Terry.

: Thanks Terry,
: I am here to do my research! I did visit the link you gave me, I think I will join! I investigated the Sulcuta CareSheet. One thing of interest, they like clover, prickly-pears, grasses, all of which are right out in my backyard!
