Sulcatas, red foot, yellow foot leopard or burmese brown.
All grow large, sulcatas the largest.
But please do your homework first as each species has different needs.
I live in Hawaii where it is humid and my sulcatas do just fine. I know of another tort keeper in Texas who keeps sulcatas, leopards and red foots.
Why don't you subscribe to the Tortoise Trust's discussion list, you will come into contact with hundreds of tortoise keepers through the list. Some who also live in Texas and can offer first hand info.

Terry.

: I want to get a tortise. I am an experienced herper and have kept many turtles and had a few roadside texas tortises when I was a kid. I want one that will grow very large. I have a big, secure yard in South Texas and the weather here is great to keep reptiles outdoors. High Humididty & wonderful Temps, (for a cold-blooded beast) I have a Burmese Python House in the backyard, so I am accustomed to dealing with large animals outdoors.
: I have been reading up on Sulcuttas and Red-foots. What are your suggestions for me?
: Thank you.
