Hi. When I considered tortoises for a new pet,
I checked out the size thing also. Think backwards.
Where/how would you keep an adult sulcata right NOW?
Can you see the space and time required or do you
want to blank that out and "deal with it later",
which usually means "can't deal with it, give it away".
Even the smallest sulcata (redfoots also) will require
space and time (by far the most time-consuiming animal
that I have), plus their diet will have you doing some
serious nutritious research! lol
If you can give them the space they ought to have
then maybe investigate adopting one that somebody
couldn't keep. You can't stick them in a tank
"for a while, until they grow etc..."
If you can see the big picture in the future, then
investigate a reasonable set-up for now which will
possible include something new, not using a spare
tank you may have. I like my sulcata and think
redofoots are great also. Even smaller species
require space and care. Once you get a tortoise,
it'll make the snakes and lizards seem like only
decorations! They are so interesting. niki
