: I will be putting 3 eastern box turtles in there to, do you think there will be a problem? One of me box turtles is call deablo, spanish for devil. will Sulcatta be ok with Deablo? Sulcatta is only 3 and 3/4 inches.>>>>
Box turtles need a humid, moist environment with soaking pools and misting.
Sulcatas need an arid environment, they can not tolerate wet, humid conditions and could easily drown in a shallow pool
Not to mention cross contamination of diseases and parasites, which could prove fatal.
See link below.
Also the diet is very different.
Box turtles need animal protein , fruits and veggies.
Sulcatas should not be fed animal protein, veggies or fruits.
They are grazing herbivores who feed on grasses, and other edible plants and leafy greens.
I keep both sulcatas and box turtles.
Both species are housed separately and have never come into contact with eachother.
The box turtles enclosures are heavily planted with shade plants, leaf piles for hiding and shallow soaking pools. Their enclosures are misted daily.
The sulcatas enclosures ( the larger ones roam the entire yard) are heavily planted with a variety of grasses, clovers and vetches for grazing.
These enclosures are kept dry, watered at night when the sulcatas are in their overnight shelter.
To learn more about keeping tortoises and turtles I suggest you subscribe to a discussion list, the Tortoise Trust list is excellent and deals with both turtles and tortoises. Subscribe from the Tortoise Trust web site, or at egroups.com.
