A more varied diet would be good for the
tortoise. Collard greens, at 2.5% protein,
are probably not the culprit by themselves,
since all the typical greens recommended
for tortoises, like dandelions, mustard,
kale, etc, run about 2-3% protein. Grasses
and hays can run much higher. Apples
are very low in protein. These protein
#s are for raw foods, not dehydrated.
You can feed too much of a good thing.
Large amounts of low protein foods
can still put too much protein into your tort.
If you could post how much the tort weighs
and how much you are feeding him, maybe
others could help you decide if it
is too much.
