It all depends on the weed killer used. Any roundup type weed killer has a half life of up to one year. By most state laws, your land lord has to show you the epa service ticket that the lawn care company has to give your land lord.(apon request) You also have a right to request a specimen lable and M.S.D.S of all chemicals placed on the lawn as well aS IN SIDE your rental unit.(there mat be a charge for copies)
I would not put your tortoise on the lawn for at least one year after last weed killer application.

You could sugest to your land lord he could save lots of money on watering bills by keeping the grass at four inches. This allows the roots to grow deeper and make the grass more drought resistant. Most weeds thrive in short grass areas. Ever notice what plants show up first in an area just escivated? You got it weeds.

You may want to look up some organic lawn care web sites. They could help your case.

Some times putting large amounts of activated charcoal in the lawn can help soak up the toxins quicker. this can be expensive and still will not deal with the chemical in the plant.

One last thing you can do for in the future. Many states now have a register for prior notification of any pesticides used in your neighborhood. You may want to call your health department or department of agriculture. If no luck there you can call your state legislature. They will be able to help you for sure.

last week my landlord put weed and feed on the yard and i was wondering how long do i have to wait before my torts can go out and browse. i didn't have a say in it because its not my property so i guess i just have to deal with it and wait it out. he left one spot out back untreated because of our different flowers but its not very big and my torts try to go under our decks if we don't watch them really close. thanks for your responces --brian m
