: : How to care for your African Spur Thighed Tortoise !
: The correct common name for G. sulcata is African Spurred Tortoise...leave out the thighs those are Mediterranean tortoises.
: : Tortoises eat different things, but the main part of Sulcata's diet consists of
: : fruit and vegetables.
: They should not eat fruit on a regular basis; vegetables should be limited to dark leafy greens, main diet should be grazing grass, weeds, edible plants, spineless opuntia
: :I spray it with ESU Reptile® Iguana calcium spray™.All you
: Never used the spray- I use cuttlebone or powdered calcium carbonate - they are more natural
: :tank/enclosure.
: Tortoises do very poorly in glass tanks because they offer poor ventilation and trap heat...avoid glass for tortoises - other suggestions for better options - plastic Rubbermaid type enclosures, plastic kiddy pools, tortoise table,
: something like Niki who posts here has.
: : Tortoises also need a water dish.
