I usually treat with Panacur and Metronidazole orally. Of course, the trick is getting the beak open! My vet uses one of those toothbrush tips - the little rubber thingies that you use to massage your gums, to pry open the jaws. You'll have to pin a front leg out and to the side in order to get access to the head.
Remember not to treat with both P & M at the same time - wait 4-5 days between.
I'm guessing that they are probably imported, and therefore are loaded with parasites.
Make sure you give them a lot of soaking time too, as they may be very dehydrated. Get them out in the sun as much as possible.
I may get some virtual spit-wads, but I'm so glad these are banned from importation now. I've seen so many die in pet stores and at the vet's office. And when they are healthy and doing fine they are such excellent torts.
: It seems that my little "trio" of leopard tortoises are actually a trio of males. I'm not really sure but according to some web pages "if the turtle has V shaped anal scutes, it is a male". Well, I checked them and I think all three have V-shaped scutes. Another thing that worries me is that the guy that gave them to me didn't tell me if they are CB or WC and now I would like to know which is the easier way to administer Panacur and Metrinidazole should they be positive for parasites and flagellates. Please help me since I just got stuck with them and I want to give them a decent life.
: Thanks,
: Ivan
