Michelle~
It is great to see that you are looking for a cb russian. It took me almost two years to find one, but I feel that it was worth it.
I used to use paper towels and then put a pile of shredded newspaper in one corner. Now I use ESU lizard litter. The first day Boris tried to eat it, and I was concerned that it wouldn't work, but after that first day he stopped.
As Boris is only 8 months old, I have not yet hibernated and will not for another year or two. I too am quite nervous about this. I decided that it would be worth it to get this kind of trtoise and have to do the hibernating bit, than go with another that was not as well suited to where I live.
Good luck in finding a tortoise. I sent you an e-mail with the e-mail address of the breeder I got Boris from. You may have to wait until next year, because I think he has sold all the babies. Actually, he might have them at the end f this summer. I forget just how long I have had Boris!
