: marissa's right. they are not a cheap pet. i really can't recommend sliders either though. they do get large. about the size of a basketball and eat about $1 worth of food daily when they are adults. we also spent about 4 to 6 hours a week keeping their tanks clean. they are however, very fun to watch. very active. they need a very good filtration system. we had two on the tank andit was still a mess. setups for turtles and tortoises are expensive. lighting costs a lot too. water turtles are more prone to illnesses, fungus and infections if you don't keep the tank super clean. my russian is about the easist to care for of the four types i keep. however, they do hibernate and building a pen for him can get costly. good luck. maybe you might want to look into a box turtle. they are fairly easy to keep. do a lot of research though first and make sure you can meet their requirements.
