Deb,
We take our two sulcatas about two hours in the
car every month or so for extended weekends. We
have found that initally the tortoises do not enjoy
the trips, but there are some things to help.
Be careful of leaving them in hot cars.
Avoid slamming the doors too often and too hard.
When they are confined in small dark boxes they will
make a mess. If they are free to move about on a
floor mat they do better. Ours are somewhat accostomed
to traveling in the back of my pickup, they have their
hiding place, out of the wind.
When camping make sure that they stay warm and be
careful of dogs and other outside animals. If you
go into mountains the tortoises do not like the elevation
gain. I guess it effects their inner ear.
The tortoise will not be much fun on the trip, but
once you are there it will soon forget about it
and should return to normal activity promptly.
There will be many cool and new things to explore.
good luck
Sage
