Hey yeah, definately buy the mix from Turtlecafe.
You must keep in mind when feeding this Tortoise that
it's a "Desert" animal. Pretty much you need to
give it grasses, regular grass seed is fine just
get a mixture of some sort. You could let it eat your
lawn if you want, provided you don't use chemicals on it AT ALL.
Just feed it the green parts of the Turnip, get Turnip GREENS.
And yes cut the spines off, I think your tort may appreciate that.
