I'd not recommend using your torotise pen directly to grow grass in...the graze mix needs very very high moisture and lots of sun...the seeds will get trampled by the baby before they even sprout and in order for the graze to grow the dirt has to be very moist which is NOT a good thing for G.Sulcatas. I'd do your graze mix in separate planters or window box planters (plastic is fine) and keep the rubbermaid for the tortoise. Remember the UVB doesn't penetrate over 12" so if the Rubbermaid sides are high you will have to rig your UVB somehow so it sits lower...or cut the sides down a bit. I'd recommend lining the bottom with newspaper to absorb fluids (urine) and use alfalfa pellets or Care Fresh as substrate. I'd also NOT recommend having the basking spot all slate..the rocks can really heat up and might be too hot or burn the baby. Your baby's shell is pliable and still hardening up...it could sustain damage or burns if your heat source is close to the rocks and heating them up...best to just use substrate for the first year...after that cage furniture is fine. IMHO
