My new Sulcata

Well I finally went out and purchased me a new Sulcata today and he is so awesome. He is about 4" long and is so cute. I have some Dr. Quinns critter litter as his substrate and was told it was crushed wallnut shells. It is a vary grainy substrate and made of wallnut shells (pretty small pieces) My question is this, is it safe? Or should i use something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated .
