I think the point Jeff is trying to make is that tegus should not be considered by ANYONE as a beginners animal. Anyone who does not have at least a few years experience keeping various reptiles ALIVE should start (practice) on less demanding/complicated/expensive reptiles until they have developed at least SOME familiarity with the process. Keeping reptiles and keeping them healthy are two different things. It is how to recognize people with zero experience. Unfortunately, some people NEVER get a clue.
