:Although I sympathise with that viewpoint, it does have a more sinister side to it. Scientists are supposed to draw conclusions from fact, not preconceptions. While erecting "political species" may make things easier in the short run, it will be our undoing in thelong run. Eventually, "developers" etc. will get wise to the fact that new species seem to keep popping up very coveniently whenever anyone wants to do anything, and scientific advice as a whole gets discredited. Scientists ought to be as sure as possible to avoid being seen to be partial in the scientific conclusions we generate, if not, we will all suffer for it.
