Heh I was just using 'ratsnakes' as an example, I didn't really mean for this discussion to crop up.

Ok one question, does anybody accept Burbrink et al's first finding that separated obsoleta into bairds, obsoleta, and allegheniensis? That made sense to me (though I can't back it up with any data). Separating spiloides didn't really make sense to me since, as you said, the Appalachians are definitely NOT a barrier to gene flow. I think they did an excellent job of refuting the subspecies concept (here).
