Emydidae is a valid family that contains the new world pond turtles and of course the nominate form the european pond turtle(Emys) . The Asian pond turtles are a separate and valid family, however, the current name (see David 1994) is Geoemydidae by priority of the genus Geoemyda (Gray 1834 )over Batagur (Gray 1855). However, some taxonomists who should know better continue to use Bataguridae.

:Hi Mathieu

:In most recent scientific publications Bataguridae is used as a valid Family name.

::Hi,

::I would like to know if the family Emydidae still englobe the Emydinae et the Batagurinae subfamilies,, or if the Batagurinae have been raised to a distinct Bataguridae family?

::Thanks,

::Mathieu Ouellette
