This past weekend we were hiking a trail in the Fakahatchee Strand,Florida. Along one of the trails, just a few inches from the path, we found three mud turtle eggs. They were laying on the surface of the ground completely uncovered! The eggs must have been there for some time by their appearance. The amazing thing is that the area is home to many animals that I think would eat eggs...snakes,racoons,crows etc., yet they had not been eaten?
