There are 2 downstate herpetological societies:

the NY Herpetological Society at:
www.nyhs.org

and...
the Long Island Herpetological Society at:
www.liherpso.com

Both sites tell you about the clubs benefits (meeting places and programs, animals for adoption and sale, photos, recommendations or possible referrals, not to mention tons of new friends with a similar interest)

Pop into either site and look around.
