In Reply to: So who here has alligator snappers? What size, sex, etc. posted by Accomplice on October 25, 2002 at 09:38:34:

:Who's got alligator snappers? What size, weight, sex, ages, color, enclosures?

:I'll start:
:(as of next Tuesday)
:1 male
:19 inch straight line shell length
:weight estimate 60-70 lbs. (could be a bit less)
:age: 20-30 years old?
:winter enclosure: outdoor 4 X 4' wood framed pond 2 feet deep (150 gallons?)
:spring-summer enclosure: likely to be an outdoor 300 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank
:turtle color: rust (possible redish tint)
:misc: plan to stock ponds with 4-5 inch fingerlings (bass, stripers, etc.), searching for the perfect hollow log/ tangled stump for a submerged hiding spot.
