I thought about just having a dirt bottom. I wonder how hard it is to get it to retain water. Perhaps a clay mixture could be created to have a fairly waterproof set-up. I'll call the Houston Zoo this week and see what they did in their set-up. I'd think that concrete might be rough on their shells. But I guess it becomes slick after a little while.

:Kevin- The Houston zoo uses a natural setup for their alligator-ally snapper pond ( dirt bottom) you can still see the gars,snappers,and gators. The Lufkin zoo uses concrete in their pond.How about concrete? Steve
