Additional information on auction and Robert E. Gordon.

The Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles is pleased to
announce that the family of the late Robert E. Gordon (1925-1996),
the society's president in 1971, has recently donated his collection
of herpetological books and stamps to SSAR. The society will be
auctioning the individual items beginning April 13, with proceeds
being used to set up The Robert E. Gordon Endowment for the support
of book-length publications. Gordon was a long-time member of OHS and
SSAR and spent most of his distinguished career at the University of
Notre Dame where he was professor of biology and eventually vice
president. He was a leading specialist on salamander behavior and
ecology; he also published on his extensive philatelic interests. A
full obituary was published in Herpetological Review, 27(3): 109-110,
1996.

The Auction is being held on-line at http://www.BiblioBid.com. The
library consists of 405 lots covering herpetology, mammalogy,
ichthyology, ecology, ornithology, invertebrate zoology, evolution,
and other natural sciences. Approximately 100 of the lots will be
listed for auction each week from April 13/14 through May 5. A
complete list of the 405 lots may be downloaded as a pdf file from:
http://www.ssarherps.org/pdf/GordonCat.pdf. Additional information
about the auction as well as an html list of the lots may be found
at: http://www.herplit.com/SSAR/Gordon.html.

Dr. Gordon's stamp collection is very extensive for biological
subjects and will be auctioned in small groups. The stamps will be
listed as quickly as possible, beginning April 14 and extending until
they have all been sold.

To participate in the auction visit http://www.BiblioBid.com. If you
have any question about the auction or the auction site, please
contact the SSAR Publication Secretary, Breck Bartholomew
or Phone: 801-453-0489.
