The East African sandboa has a decent-sized range, and in that range you can get variation. The Egyptian sandboa, which I think has been lumped as the same subspecies as the Kenyan, all East African sandboas (check this before taking my word..see Chris H's Sand Boa Page in the FAQ section of kingsnake.com) has yellow instead of orange. You don't have a rare color necessarily, just a different one from what most people seek.. the orangest East African sandboa they can get. Or, maybe you do have some kind of hypo. Got a pic?
