Mite question....

The owner of the local pet store said that I should get some anti-mite stuff for my snake.
Its normally used for birds and comes in a little tin. She said to just put the tin on top of the tank screen (outside of the tank) and it keeps the mites away.

Does this actually work? Is there something better to use that you guys suggest?
