Breeding Question

hi, first post here, but ive enjoyed the pics and info for a while. im writing a research paper, and of course i chose reptiles, but ive got some questions about genetic traits of crested geckos. from my understanding, the phenotype (visible characteristics) of crested gecko offspring can vary greatly from the parents. Is this correct? and if so, are all reptiles like this, or are most species more predictable?
