How old is the gecko? Cages that are too large can be just as bad as ones that are too small IMO. They can have trouble finding food and hence not getting enough to eat if the cage is too big. We house our hatchlings in small critter keepers and move them up. Around 6 months they are in 10 gallons. I also suggest not using any loose substrate. Cresties are clumsy feeders and they could accidentally ingest the substrate while hunting. Just use paper towels, it’s safer and cleaner. If you absolutely must keep the substrate make sure you bowl feed and do not allow the crix to roam (they will eat fecal matter and be harder for the gecko to find). Small dog crocks work the best.
