:::At one point did you not say the breeder said she was gravid? If so she should have layed a while ago. If not it is likely she was never gravid in the first place. They can hold sperm, but they use it continuously throughout the season, until it is gone. I have never experienced anything with them “holding on to it” for a few weeks or months then laying. The digging around sometimes happens. My females check out their nest boxes on occasion even when they are not gravid.
