With 21 Lizards and 20 Snakes, plus the breeding colonies of mice and tubs of crickets, vacations are a no go for me. Just passed on a free trip to FL (courtesy of my mother in law who lives there, I'm in NY and FL would be nice right about now). I just couldn't work it out with the critters. I am in a Herp club and know people through the club who are capable of caring for my pets, and probably could be persuaded with some cash, but they are strangers to my husband so he said no way. He insisted his friend could do it but he has no pets and never fed anything crickets or worms. I just can't bring myself to leave my "kids" with someone who's never cared for a reptile. If you are just talking one tank of Cresteds you might have better luck. They'd be fine with just the baby food for a week or two and finding someone to change baby food once a day and mist a tank would not be too bad. With only one tank you could even take it to the friends house so they wouldn't have to come to yours every day. Joining a herp club is a great way to meet local people who share your interests and find pet sitters. If only my husband would trust me that my herp club friends are trustworthy (they really are), then I'd be packing for Florida!
