Question concerning 'Reticulated' name...*more*

This may sound like a foolish question, and i DO believe i have known the answer to this in the past...but for some reason i can't remember, or figure out what the 'reticulated' part in the retic's name is referring to.

Is it referring to the way the scales are laid out? Or is it referring to the netlike coloration on the reptile itself? Both answers seem very feasible.....

Just...early evening brain gum...lol...anyone interested in replying? .......Magnum.
