In Reply to: Is anyone keeping Green Vine Snakes and having good luck? posted by BPruett on September 14, 2002 at 14:29:38:

I have heard that some succeed in getting them to take pinks or hoppers, but I haven't bothered to try. For one thing the mouse has to be tiny or they can't swallow it, but has to be old enough to move around and get their attention (they are stimulated visually, not by heat or scent as other snakes). In bulk you might find anoles for as little 75 cents each and they are easier to keep than mice (and don't smell).

Here's one of mine enjoying a leisurely meal. The pic is not as gruesome as it seems; not a mouthful of blood. The inside of the snake's mouth is a dark color. In fact their skin is an incredible black and green checkerboard pattern on the inside, when stretched. Not something you would see outside of a necropsy, but it is suggested by the pattern of their defensive display.
