No spiked vertebrae. Just strong neck muscles that contract and collapse the shell.

Depending on the size of the snake, zebra finch eggs, quail eggs, pigeon eggs, ringneck dove eggs, bantam chicken eggs, etc. Find a store that sells grain and poultry supplies; they can probably give you some leads, especially if they have a for sale or trade bulletin board.
