When I went in search of my first snake, I was really turned off by the yellow ratsnakes I saw at a local pet store. The two yearlings they had were constantly striking at the the glass on the tank whenever someone walked by. I thought they were pretty , but mean. Then, (this goes to show how little I knew about snakes) I let a guy at another pet store sell me a wc baby everglades that turned out to be a yellow rat snake. I love it!! I just held it for a few minutes every day and it calmed down to the point that it never bites.
