Steve, congrats on your new acquisitions. You will fall in love with these guys. I was lucky enough to hatch out several rhynos last year. Of course, I first tried them on hour-old pinkies as they are very small juvies but not one showed interest. I tried brained, pre-killed, dipped in chicken soup pinkies, everything. Then I decided to try fish - little guppies. They went nuts over these right away. My guess is that this is their natural food as juvies in the wild. Who knows maybe they use the little appendage as a lure? Anyhow you need to feed them often if you use fish as they seem to go through them pretty quickly. I have since switched over the juvie pair I have on to pinkies. Like we do with hognose and toads. I scented the pinkies with the guppies and now they take them scent free. I actually offer both food items to give them a variety and there doesn't seem to be a problem. All other rearing is pretty straight forward. I have them in a rubbermiad with sphagnum moss for coverage and a water bowl. Hope this helps and feel free to contact me offline if you have any other questions. ---glenn n nancy
ps. can't wait to observe the color change!
