Having grown up in South Florida, I can testify to the tree dwelling habits of both yellow and "glades" rat snakes. In the late sixties and early seventies, it was not uncommon to collect 20-30 in the Casuarina trees that were planted along the canals surrounding the cane fields. Sometimes the limiting factor was how well could you climb in order to go up and get them. I have always considered these snakes to be somewhat gregarious. Even though most people preach keeping your snakes separate, I think 2 or 3 adults in a large, tall cage with a network of branches looks really great. Plus , you can work them out by making them climb up or down for their dinner. Just don't let them fight over their food.
